Passenger Counting

Data processing for automatic passenger counting is based on a central on-board computer.

The sensors (counting devices) register the number of passengers boarding or exiting at stops. On this basis, the analyser calculates the count and passes the count data on to the on-board computer. The on-board calculator determines its exact position by way of logical localising and GPS to identify the stop the counting result is attributed to.

Counting technology

Depending on the width of the passenger entrance, one, two or three sensors are used for counting. They are installed above the entrance in a concealed manner. The sensors are actually invisible for passengers.

The passenger counters operate with an active infrared laser, which scans the door area continuously and in high definition and generates a 3-dimensional picture. This innovative principle of detection guarantees error-free recognition for both the number and the direction of movements. Afterwards the sensor- signals are analysed in the analyser.
